For long the concept of a strong female lead was foreign to our dramas. At least since I started watching dramas, I very rarely came across a strong female lead. Yet, in the past few years, I’ve seen this trend changing. Throughout these years dramas aired which gave us strong female leads.

Female leads who were not whiny damsels in distress. They were headstrong, they knew what they wanted and then worked towards it, despite their tough circumstances. They did not need a knight in shining armor to save them rather they were their saviors. I have listed below few such characters:

Kashaf Murtaza (Zindagi Gulzar Hai): Kashaf belongs to a lower middle-class family where she lives with her mother and her two sisters. Her father abandoned her mother for not giving birth to a son.

Kashaf being the eldest daughter sees her mother facing hardships in life. This makes her bitter towards life and men.

She focuses on her career, passes the CSS exam, and becomes a DMG officer. Throughout her journey, she also finds love and gets married but this does not stray her from her path of building a career.

Zubiya Khalil (Yaqeen Ka Safar): Zubiya Khalil is a young girl who is mourning the death of her mother at the hands of her physically violent father.

As her journey continues we see that a class fellow of hers tries to abuse her, from where she runs and saves herself. Zubiya is not accepted by her family and society for her past, yet she carries her life on.

She gets admitted to a medical college where she completes her MBBS. It is then that she is again falsely accused by her family of immoral actions. This is where she stands up for herself, clarifies her position, and leaves her house. As the story progresses she starts working in a hospital, where she earns for herself and also serves humanity.

Nigar Johar (Aik Hai Nigar): Nigar is a girl who wants to make it big. She gets admitted to a medical college where she completes her degree and then works there, helping humanity.

Throughout this journey, she faces several hardships, where she loses her parents and her loving husband. Although she mourns the loss of her loved ones, nothing shakes her resolve. She stands strong in the face of hardships and continues to serve humanity.

Aaliya Agha (Kuch Ankahi): Aaliya Agha is a middle-class real estate agent who is the only breadwinner of her house. She defies the most prevalent concept in our society that only a son can financially run the house.

Throughout the drama, we see that her priority is to financially stabilize her family and to buy the house that her father has inherited. Love appears to be second on her list.

These are few of the characters that I could think of. These were the characters that left an impact on me. If there are any other dramas with strong female leads which you have seen then drop the suggestions in the comments. That's all for this post folks!
